Shadow Explorations

On February 2, we spent some time in the basement of the school exploring shadows with the use of our flashlights and a variety of different objects. We were exploring the concepts of near and far, large and small, tall and short. We were working together to trace our shadows. We were having a great time learning! Afterwards, we talked about our discoveries. We answered questions such as: What happens when the flashlight is close/far from the wall or object? What happens if we shine the light at different angles (from the bottom up, or top down)? The following day, we looked at the shadows we traced. Some students explained what their shadow was and how they made it. Then we drew some of the shadows we remembered making in our journals and explained how they were made.

Question for the Parents

I have a multitude of pictures from the activities we do in our class. Many of them we print off and put into our portfolios. I would like to know if any parents would be interested in getting a CD of their child's pictures at the end of the year. Please post a comment or write a note in the agenda to let me know.

Blog Challenge 4

Today we had the kick off for Jump Rope for Heart. The fundraisers will be coming home soon. We talked about the different things we do to keep our hearts healthy. Post a comment on this entry telling us some of the things you and your family do to keep your heart healthy.

We talk about the posts in class, so make sure you remember what your comment is.
