Willow Awards Books

Today we read another Willow Award book with Mrs. Harris. We read Farley Follows his Nose. Farley followed his nose smelling different smells on quite an adventure.
This website was created after this book: http://www.farleyfoundation.org/
It is to help senior citizens and disabled persons get help for their pets.
To see the activity we did after reading the story, visit the school library.

Book Orders and Tubing Forms

Book Orders went home today. They are due Friday, January 14.

Tubing forms went home today. Please return the Tubing for as soon as possible. We all had a fantastic time last year and are looking forward to more fun and hopefully good weather too this year!

New Happenings

Many things were different today when the class came in. There was a lot of excitement!
There is a new seating arrangement. There are new play areas and new things during Circle Time.

Circle Time
Our Circle Time routine has remained mostly the same. I have added a couple of new things. We are doing and exercise song each morning to get our heat rates up and burn some energy. Today we learned the song "Do the Dragon." We are also learning songs about Peace. Today we listened to "Say Hi!" This song encourages everyone to look people in the eye, smile and say HI! We discussed different ways to greet someone. Some suggestions in class were to wave, say Hola, Bonjour, or Hello.

New Play Areas
We now have a hospital in our classroom. Please do not be alarmed if your child comes home with band-aids on. They are just from play time. In the hospital we have medical charts that the "Doctors" can write in. There are a variety of props: band aids, gauze, germ masks, stethoscopes, cotton balls, hand wipes, and gloves to name just a few. The children also have to sign their names in the appointment book if they want to be a "Patient" and see a doctor.

The painting area is now finger painting.

There is an overhead projector area where the children use an overhead to experiment with light and dark, shadows and transparencey. They make designs and pictures on the overhead with a variety of objects and they can trace and colour them onto chart paper that is hanging up.

As the month goes on, more new activities will be added. They will focus on Measuring, Our Bodies, Winter, and Friendship.

Stay tuned for more updates! Parents you are always welcome to come check out what we are doing and the new things in our class!

Blog Contest

Each week I will post a challenge. Something that parents and students can do together. Each time a challenge is completed, your child's name will be entered in a classroom draw. The draw will be made at the end of each month. A prize will be awarded to the winner. The purpose of this contest is to use our classroom blog more. It will also help me to post more often. I welcome any suggestions or comments. I want this to be something fun.

Challenge 1
Watch the video for making gingerbread cookies and identify 1 of the 2 songs playing in the background. It was posted in December. Write the name of the song in the agenda on Monday.
